Before you land
- Trains. SNCF Connect and other apps handle tickets and platform changes. Platforms are often announced shortly before departure, so data helps.
- Maps and rides. Google Maps works fine for walking and transit. Taxi and ride apps need a data connection to book and track.
- WhatsApp. A common way to reach hosts and tour operators. Set it up at home.
- WiFi. Hotels and cafes have WiFi, but it drops once you leave. Mobile data keeps maps and tickets working between stops.
- Phone support. You need an eSIM-capable phone that is carrier-unlocked. The quickest check is Settings, then look for "Add eSIM".
