Short answer: Switzerland is outside EU roaming, so a local eSIM is usually the cheapest way to get data. GoSIM sells 10 GB / 30 days for $7.99, against $11 at Ubigi, $20.50 at Nomad and $23 at Airalo. Below we compared six providers on the same day, plan by plan.

Switzerland isn't in the EU, so EU roaming rules don't apply. Many EU mobile plans charge extra for data in Switzerland, or leave it out entirely. A local eSIM avoids that.

Unlimited plans

For one week of unlimited data, Airalo and Nomad each charge $25, Ubigi $24 (up to 20 GB at full speed) and Holafly $27.50. For 15 days, Saily charges $45.99 (5 GB per day at full speed, then 1 Mbps). GoSIM sells daily plans instead, after the daily allowance the speed drops rather than cutting out.

Which plan fits your trip?

  • Day trip to Zurich, Geneva or Basel: a 1 GB daily plan, or 1 GB for 7 days.
  • A week of skiing or hiking: 3–5 GB for 30 days covers maps, weather apps and photo sharing.
  • Longer stays or remote work: 10–20 GB for 30 days.

Coverage in Switzerland is excellent, including most ski resorts and mountain railways. Long tunnels will briefly drop the connection on any network.

Before you buy

  • Refunds: GoSIM offers a 7-day refund on eSIMs that haven't been activated.
  • Keep your home SIM: use the eSIM for data and keep your normal number active for calls and texts.
  • Turn off data roaming on your home line: this avoids surprise charges from your home operator.
  • Compatibility: your phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

FAQ

Does EU roaming cover Switzerland? No. Switzerland isn't part of the EU's "roam like at home" rules, so check your operator's Swiss rates or use a local eSIM.
